Frequently Asked Questions
Piano-Together programHow many lessons are there?
There are 32 lessons during the school year. On average, there are 4 lessons per month. Because of the holidays, some months may have just 3 lessons, while other months may have 5. What lesson times are available? Mon, Tue, Wed : 3pm - 7:30pm Sat : 8am - 5pm What if we can’t make it to the lesson? Let me know as soon as possible. This allows me to offer the lesson slot you will miss to someone else, and you can use any cancelled slots as they arise. Note that the monthly lesson cost remains the same even if you miss lessons. Where are you located? We are in Severn, MD off Telegraph Road What books will I need? We use the “Piano Adventures” series. An assignment notebook is also provided to keep track of piano homework. These books are covered by the registration fee. Students taking the Royal Conservatory of Music exams will need separate exam music books. Those books are not covered by the registration fee, and can be purchased from Amazon.com or a local music shop. What do I need to bring to the lesson? All piano books and the homework assignment book are to be brought to every lesson. When is payment due? Payment is due by the first lesson of the month. How much practicing is expected? I expect students to practice at least 5 days per week. Each student is given a list of specific practice tasks and repetition amounts. They are to work through that list each practice day. For beginners, this should take about 10 to 15 minutes. For others this will take from 20 to 30 minutes. What performance opportunities are there for the students? We have several recitals/concerts throughout the year. Some of these are part of the local Music Teachers Association, and other are private concerts given at Assisted Living homes in the area. These are open to all Piano-Together students who have completed the “Primer” level. Performing is optional, though I encourage as many students as possible to take part.
