Etudes Music Studio Policy 2021/22

Welcome to the new Piano Year. I am excited about all the students will be learning this year. The policies below will help us to have a very productive Piano Year. Please read and let me know if you have any questions.
Lessons and Make-Up Lessons
The Piano Year runs from 12 September 2021 through 11 June 2022. Students will have 32 regular lessons during the piano year, and 5 make-up days will be included for those who are unable to make a regular lesson. [See the Piano Year Calendar]. Students beginning lessons in January 2022 will have 20 regular lessons during the piano year.

Students can also make-up lessons by using any spots cancelled by other students, so it is a great help if you let me know as soon as you are aware that your child will not make it to a lesson - that way, another student can use that spot as a make-up if necessary. The lesson fee remains the same even if you miss a lesson.
Fees
Lesson Fees are usually paid monthly, but this year, as requested by several parents, there is the option to pay in 3 installments.

Monthly Payments
  • The Annual Lesson Fee will be divided into equal monthly payments of $80, payable from September to June. Invoices will be sent out on the first of the month and should be paid by 7th of the month.

Termly Payments
  • The Annual Lesson Fee will be divided into 3 equal payments, payable September, December and March. Group lessons students will receive invoices for $265 per term. Solo lesson students will receive invoices for $350 per term. Invoices will be sent out on the first of the month and should be paid by 7th of the month.
  • Students beginning lessons in January 2022 and students taking part in the 4-month Piano Project cannot pay termly. Those students will pay monthly.
Please complete this form if you wish to pay termly.

The $30 Annual Registration Fee will be included on the first invoice.

A $15 late fee will be added to any payment received after the due date. Students will not be permitted to enter the lesson if fees are not paid by the due date.
The Lesson Invoices will contain the Zoom link for the lessons, Zelle details (for those who prefer to pay by Zelle), a "Click to pay" link for those who want to pay by PayPal or Credit/Debit card, and the list of lesson dates/times for your child's lesson.

Attendance
Picture
  • Students should begin the Zoom lesson with their device set up facing the piano keys and their music books on the music stand. They should also have a pencil and paper clips or post-it notes to mark the pages they are to practice during the week.
  •  We will use the first week to ensure everyone is correctly set up, but after the first week, students will be muted until they are correctly set up so they don't disturb the lesson for everyone else.
Students should be in the Zoom waiting room 5 minutes before the lessons begin. (They can use those 5 minutes to run through their songs).

A quiet environment will help your child to concentrate during the lessons. This can be tricky if siblings are around, but it can be difficult to hear what the students are playing if there is a TV on, siblings are playing with toys or other people are conversing in the piano room. If this happens, the student will be muted so that the other students are not disturbed.

Students learn and focus better if a parent is within hearing distance of what they are doing. Please stay close by during the lesson - especially for younger children who sometimes have problems using zoom.
Practice
Students are expected to practice 5 days a week. Practice time will take about 10 to 15 minutes for beginners and about 20 to 30 minutes for students at level 2 and above. Piano practice is homework - most students need to be reminded to do it. Most of the students are doing well with practice, but there are a few who did not make much progress last year.

This year we will be running a Piano Practice Challenge to keep students moving forward. The students had fun with the PianOlympics challenge this past summer and were really motivated seeing their progress charts on the screen. We will have a similar challenge this Piano Year encouraging the students to learn as many songs as possible, to memorize repertoire and to learn to recognize music notes on sight.
Recitals
In light of the current health situation, we are not planning to take part in any of the Anne Arundel Music Teachers Association recitals this school year. Instead, we will do online recitals similar to those we did last year.

Thank you for abiding by these policies to help your child's piano lessons to be productive and efficient. I look forward to a great year!
